Valpo Parks Dept and Friends of Fishing Ice Fishing Derby

When: Jan. 25, 2014

Registration: 5:00am CST and Weigh in 12 Noon CST

Where: Check in will be at Loomis Lake at Rogers Lakewood Park north of Valparaiso. Fisherman are allowed to fish on Loomis Lake only.

What: "Friends of Fishing" (a group of fisherman from NW Indiana) is partnering with the Valparaiso Parks Department to host a Ice Fishing Derby.

Why: All profits will go to construct a new ramp on Loomis Lake and to stock walleye in Loomis.

Cost: $10/adult $5/under 17 if registered before Jan. 25th . You can pre-register by stopping by or calling Valparaiso Parks Department at 3210 Campbell St. Valparaiso, IN 46385 219-462-5144

The day of the event registration fees are $15/adult $7/under 17

We will have 4 categories: Panfish(gills/redear), Crappie, Walleye, Bass

We will have trophies for 1st place in each category

We will have prizes for 1-3 places in each category

We will have an adult and a child division.

Concessions will be sold.

The goal of "Friends of Fishing" is to improve the fishing in NW Indiana.. We have goals to improve access on the lakes as well as stocking and clean up projects. Our group is made up of fisherman that fish the lakes and we'd welcome anyone to join us. Looks like we finally got some good ice for this years Friends of Fishing Ice derby

. Like Joe said check out Sleze's for bait , Rich is a Great guy and will hook you up, he has just about every bait you may want... others that may go to Country Bait in Valpo, remember Doris may not be open early on Saturday.. your better off getting your bait the day before.

We will have a few Raffles... The vex will be drawn at the derby, tickets will be on hand if you need one.

6 AM............ We are thinking of letting guys go fish after they get registered, by the time you get your gear dragged out there it will be close to that time anyway.

I have spoke to Doris (Country Bait) She said she will open at 5am for the derby. Now she did say I need to remind her on Friday..... But she say she would open!

I have a box FULL of ice jigs I've been collecting over the years that don't get much water time. I'm going to let every registered kid (17 and under) dig through them and pick one out. So make sure you get the kids signed up!!!

Is the park snowmobile/four wheeler friendly? I know it's not that big of a lake but it's not to often I get a chance to get the sled out in Indiana but being a park I would think they may not be to keen on the idea.

I get to go sounds like a good time. Got my bait the other day at slez's bait in lake station. Rich said to let everyone know he will stay open till 6pm today and open at 4am sat and sun for all the early derby fisherman.

OK Doris (country bait) will be open at 5am.
1. Now she is slow please have Patience with her.
2. She is currently running low on bass minnows but has plenty suckers, walleye and Crappie.
3. Please have Patience with her, She is doing her best, if I see someone giving her a hard time it will not be pretty

That said even though I love her like a mother and want her to do well, it may be wise to see Slez for bait. I do want to be sure we are all prepaired and have a great time. Tomorrow is about you guys, all we do at F of F goes back to the community 100%!!! Rich (Slez) has plenty of bait and is ready for us. Also he is a HUGE supporter of Friends of fishing as well as many other worth while causes.

Thanks for your support we WILL have a new boat launch at Loomis this year and is because of my fellow anglers!!!!
