Keep holes from freezing
« on: Jan 19, 2014, 07:34 PM »
Having some pretty cold temps here in Central Pa this week. What kinds of inexpensive tips does everyone having from keeping my holes fro freezing shut. I thought about making my own covers, but wondered if there is a simpler solution. Thanks.

Yup, cut a line slot in a Styrofoam plate large enough to cover the hole. Put it dome up and hold in place with a bit of shavings/snow.  Works well between bait inspections.     ;)2

Just make sure to pack snow all around the disk. You should be set.

If you want another idea if fishing outside with a jig stick take a coffee can with charcoal in it.Make a auger hole 1-1 1/2 inches deep right next to your fishing hole.Make a trench connecting the two holes. That will keep your hole open for as long as the charcoal burns.Put a couple of holes in the coffee can just above the water level to allow air for the charcoal to burn.

Good luck!
