About 2 ft right now, we might need extensions on the augers this year.  If you end up near me let me know, would be glad to get you familiar with the area

I live about 12 miles from Spooner Ice here averaging around 17" we had a lot of snow at early ice up here or we would have over 2 ft of ice by now. No worry's driving trucks on the lakes, but with more snow getting stuck in the snow might start to be a problem. Last Monday I drove across a lake but had to have the pedal to the metal and took me 3 runs at the boat landing to make it up off the lake.

I live in Spooner and fish almost every day in the summer and pretty much every weekend and as much as I can during the week in the winter.  Would be happy to help out.  Any species you'd be after?

Lots of good lakes in the Chetek area...Rice, Montanis, Prairie, Pokegama and the list goes on and on...let us know when you're settled in and want to drown some bait
Every day is a good day it's just some days are better than others

Yeah Chetek is a good fishing town. The whole chetek chain of lakes is a pretty fishery not to mention Rice Lake and all the smaller lakes scattered around the area too.

I have to admit I am never at a loss to find a decent lake to fish in Northwestern Wisconsin.  Once you learn your way around you can consistently catch fish all winter.  I am up in Superior and spend a lot of time in Burnett County.  Buy a flasher if you don't have one already.  Finding fish in 30'-40' of water can be a pain at times.

I have lakes within 15 miles I have wanted to try for years ice fishing and haven't found time yet. When it warms up a little I am determined to try at least 3 new lakes this winter.

I'm with you there, by the time I get done hitting my known spots I rarely have time to drop into a new lake.  You almost have to force yourself off the beaten path.   I am thinking about driving around in early January and burying a quart of bourbon on every lake that I want to try.  Then I will be forced to go back, unbury my liquor and fish for the afternoon.

I am still using a hand auger. Mine is 5 inch which is pretty fast but by mid February that ice is 2 feet thick and even that is a pain.  Had a friend who bought an 8 inch hand auger and it is pretty useless.
