Spearing Question regarding line limits
« on: Jan 11, 2014, 05:43 PM »
As long as my decoy doesn't have a hook in its back, my understanding is that I can still run 3 traps, and spear.  Is that correct?  Does the spear count as a line?  Didn't see it anywhere in the rule book that it does.  Just looking for some first hand account.

That's what I used to do way back when you could only use two lines. Pin the decoy and run two tip ups.

I concur. Two top-level ups and a pole are fine,  along with you're decoy( no hook)

I was told your spear counts as a line from a CO. I play the game that way. :-\

A spear here in Michigan does not count as a line. Also when i am spearing i have not time to watch tip ups.

Your decoy counts as a li.e IF it has a hook in it.

If a CO told you its counted as a line I'm sure he meant if it has any way of hooking a fish.   It does get manipulated from the way its written when people don't understand what there reading and put their own interpretation to it .

lawyers call them loop holes and there all over, sad but some people use them  >:(

but yes the spear is not a line and as long as the decoy does not have a hook you can have 3 lines in the water
