Hard to believe but it's not blowing YET in Valier. Not going out on Francis because I know how quickly it can change.
My lifelong quest is to find out if a 20 lb. walleye will fit through a ten inch hole.

Been on CC for last 3 days.  Will most likely head out again today.
Yesterday gusts were over 40mph.  I don't have an ice house, just a pull-behind shanty so going for high-speed-adventures is something I cam becoming used to.  Good fish is making it worth it.  Pulled a 4pounder out last night.
Hardcore or stupid.  You be the judge.
Good Luck Guys!

It just came on like someone flipped a switch here at Valier about 30 minutes ago. Showing sustained 20 mph on my weather station. Gusting up to 32 mph and that's sheltered a bit. Getting reports from work that between Browning and Summit it's gusting to 70 mph.

Forcast for Flathead Co was a bit off.  Went to Smith lake and the wind was mild, fishing was wet and slow.

GSO12-

Every time I drive through Livingston I am being re-routed off the highway because of wind.
Maybe you should start a post to let people know when it is NOT windy over there, haha.

It's certainly not as windy as the original forecast suggested. Kinda comes and goes here in Helena but it's far from calm now. 50+ degrees now and no temps below freezing for several days makes me wonder what the big pressure ridge on CF is gonna look like. The hourly forecast (more accurate than the daily) for Townsend now shows sustained winds of 28 mph by 3 PM.
YOU are the only one who can decide if the ice is safe enough for you.

Died down for about 20 mins, then....
Now the sky is filled with dust and it is really ripping, you can hardly walk across the prairie here not to mention any ice.

I don't know if it's considered as NC Montana but Choteau is blowing 47 and gusting to 79 right now. I'm watching Seattle win.

Fished the Clearwater chain today.  Left at about 2 when the winds started to pick up.  Ended up being the right choice, as we watched a guy on Salmon struggling with his pullover when we drove by.  Winds looked to be about 40 by the time we hit the Junction.

Went to the Light House for dinner tonight. (Great meal by the way) Noticed it might be time to get the boat ready. More open water. Basically from the island to the trail that leads off the end of Dupuyer Ave and a good 100 yards out into the bay. Wind is still howling and the temp is warm too.

It was too windy to ice fish yesterday, so instead I fished my way up the Yellowstone River from Livingston to Gardiner and back. Impossible to fly cast, so I used a beadhead prince nymph tipped with a gulp maggot with a water bobber on a spinning rod. Caught two whitefish to every rainbow, but it was still fun. Naturally, my buddy and I were the only two people dumb enough to fish in gale-force winds.  :cookoo:  Didn't see another soul out there.

Loads of wildlife out and about in the valley. Hopefully the wind will lay down by next weekend and I can get back to hard water fishing.

Fished by the dikes this morning on CF for an hour and a half. Steady 20-30 mph with some nasty gusts. Relaxing and football was the highlight today.
