I am from orange county and i know there were trout at rio dam, but i dont know if they filled it back up yet.  Or if you are allowed on it.  The only trout i caught are in the river.

They have drained most of them b/c of the fear of the swinging bridge dam breaking.  So i don't think you will be able to get on any of them until it is fixed.  But most of them really only hold warm water fish bass, panfish,....etc. There are a couple of private lakes that belong to the camps that hold trout.  Greenwood lake holds a bunch of fish. I haven't iced fished back home in a while  b/c Ive been at school the last couple years, so i am going from when i fish in the summer.

These are the brookies we caught at Allen lake N.Y. on thin ice using tip-downs w/creek minnows.

Maybe a bit far from you, but Lebanon Reservoir in Madison County can usually be counted on for rainbows.  Ice conditions are not quite safe (for me anyway), but it won't be long.

I think it's South East of Syracuse.

Forget Swinging Bridge this year! Dam has a leak and they drained it to a small stream. I seriously doubt they will even allow you on but don't know that for a fact!
I don't believe you are allowed to fish Rio durring hard water and I am positive you can't keep trout from there even if you can fish it thru the ice.
Some of the guys fish the city res. in weschester county but I have not done so.
White lake deffinetly has some Hog Lakers but they tend to develope a serious case of Lock Jaw in hard water conditions. I have fished it many times and never yet caught one.
Big & Little pond used to be a great place but the past couple of years they seem to be stocking only small fries so the nice browns are getting harder to find. I fished it a few times this spring and fall and did squat.
Greenwood lake has some big fish but never fished it either.
Think in this general area we will be traveling to find legal trout waters.
If I agreed with you we would both be wrong!
