Bobhouse rules?
« on: Dec 28, 2013, 09:55 AM »
I'm thinking of putting my shack out tomorrow while I have the help. Is there any laws against putting it out before the first of Jan on a laketrout / salmon lake?

Yes I believe you can put it out on the last day of the month of Dec.Check first.
There must be a twelve step program for this

Call your local CO. I assume you're talking a lake managed for lakers etc. If your on a warm water pond for pan fish - go for it - but check the ice!! On lake trout waters etc. - fishing starts Jan. 1, 2014 - I believe you can put out a bobhouse at any time before that date as long as you don't fish before 1/1/14.

I could have sworn the digest used to say three days before start if season you could launch a house. Now digest only talks to removal by April 1. So, lesson here is 1) always check the book because it changes every year, and 2) Call the CO x 21...

Thank you all for the replies! After checking the ice this afternoon, I think I'm going to wait another week.

It is an interesting question...I thought I'd read the "three days" before so i looked at the book again and under the section for NH-ME interstate waters it states bob houses can only go on 3 days before or after end of season.

So don't know if that applies to the rest of the state or not.  Should call F&G I guess.

I looked in my " 2010-11 big book" of fish and game laws and came upon page 126 containing RSA 211:17-a  Which is pertaining to bobhouses.

http://statutes.laws.com/new-hampshire/TITLEXVIII/CHAPTER211/211-17-a

The 3 day after thing i believe is an agreement with Maine on interstate bodies of water between the 2 states.

I emailed F&G to get the answer on this.  Here is the response:

Dear nhtroutfreak,
We do not give a date when it is legal to place a bobhouse on the ice.  We certainly encourage you to check the ice before you go out and place a bobhouse to make sure it is safe but there is no date.  Thank you.

James where did you check? was it Abay and what was it? If my back was not still out of whack I would walk down and find out for myself.

If anyone has a report on ice thickness a couple hundreds yards off the town launch, it would be much appreciated.

The Lieutenant's response makes sense to me. If there's enough ice and you aren't using it to take fish, then why would they set a date?
