Managed to get onto some ice yesterday despite the miserable conditions. Fish were cooperating and we picked up 6 LLS including two beauties! Merry Christmas everyone and see ya out there!

Beauties! My goal is to get one through the ice this year. They fight so hard on rod an reel, it must be awesome fighting them with a hand line

Nice salmon! I guess they were cooperating. Nice fish! I got out Saturday and managed to get one decent brown on the ice before the rain.

in all honesty i though same thing ....but it is hard to tell the differance using pictures ...... nice fish

I'm just waiting to get one on the jig pole... On tip ups are awesome but I cant imagine getting one on a jig pole...

Hard to tell the difference sometimes on those nice salmon. But the mouth is always the giveaway. A browns mouth will end just past the eye, salmon will end right at it.

There is some nice ones like that in schroon, but by the looks of those fish they have some markings that I see on a lot of salmon that come out of a diff lake.

Did some research because of my limited understanding of landlocked salmon, and said to myself these fish look very much like big brown trout. These pictures are from the one and only species of landlocked Atlantic Salmon called Salmo salar. There are also 4 Pacific species of salmon found in NY waters but only one Atlantic. This I found interesting, perhaps to others as well....

Great fish Mike! Must have been a handful on tipups. The ones in Otsego years back were real fighters and tough to get in on handlines. Not as big as those, though!
