Unexpected PB Burbot fishing on the Alaska Winter Solstice

I got a bonus burbot...caught fishing in 80 feet (at 20 feet) for lake trout. WOW I was surprised it was there. Marked on my Vexilar at I thought it may be a pike at 20 feet or a stalking laker....they dont put up a very good fight...lol just shy of 36 inches and weighed on a habd scale at 11 lbs.  ;D Hope it does not shrink before I get it into ADF&G for a scale check and possible State certificate.

ADF&G weighed the fish at 11lbs 10oz and completed Alaska trophy fish program entry. 2nd largest fish taken from the lake IAW all other burbot recorded in the ADF&G data base. My PB to date !!!!

Nice trophy program Alaska has, burbot just need to be a minimum 8lbs to be considered a trophy size fish in Alaska.  The state records the fish and sends you a certificate for the accomplishment.

Interesting that it was so high in the water column, most of the ones around here are just a few feet to right on the bottom. :woot:
