Gill jigs
« on: Dec 12, 2013, 10:48 AM »
There hasn't been a lot of discussion about people's favorite jigs and colors.
My go-to is a glow pearl fiska with pink.
What else should I give a try?

As has been the case for decades, Black (or dark, darker, darkest), Red and Gold with Glow Red at night the last few years. Still hold that the overall size, shape and actual presentation is more important than color, and believe me I carry them all just in case. Basically 4mm Tungsten, usually Wolframs during the day. But I do like the looks of Sportmansdirect Heavy Metal Tungsten 4mm Smoothie in Black, just need to add water

I have about 6 standard gold teardrops in my box. They are cheap and they work well for me

When fishing gills I'll usually have these lures tied on colors vary but Green, Chartreuse, Red, and Black or combinations of those colors are used often.

So the more I read the more I realize that I do need more jigs. I usually start with a cj&s gold headed orange glow rat finkee #10.

I honestly think if they are biting almost any jig will work. But when it's slow is about finding that right color and size to put fish on ice

i would say all the colors you can afford by two of each that way if  a pike bite you off you got another..  here is some info out of a book i got on colors for gills. i use red, yellows and glow and whites but all ways carry gold ,black and blue or purple.

couple snaps on this book you can read the book in the pics they are in order here just not on my photo bucket account.

I'm so jealous of you right now.  I just ordered a pack of wolfram best sellers, 8 swedish pimples and 6 lindy tungsten toads.

Anyone have any luck on gils with the 1/10th and 1/5th oz swedish pimples?  My dad swears by them for any kind of fish you want to catch.

i heard the same thing and bought a few, but don't use them long enough to produce. they are not fast for catching fish for me. i get the glows. if i am messing with spoons, then the bite is slow so i am messing around with back shelf lures like this one
similar to the hali's
