Jiffy Ice Auger Help
« on: Dec 08, 2013, 10:49 AM »
Hello all,
I am looking at bidding on an ice auger on an auction, but could use some help.  I would like to confirm that it is a 3hp engine and if there's anything else that anyone else can tell me about the auger.  What it's worth?

The site says it's a Jiffy 8in Ice Auger, 3hp Tescumseh, like new

Here's the pictures that are on the auction site:

THANKS for you help!

Looks good. Can't tell if it's the three horse but looks like it.

Nobody makes them like that anymore. All metal.......even the gas cap?  Nice thing about them is every few years you can touch up the power head, handles and auger bit with rustoleum shaker cans and it will look like new!

Thanks Agronomist for the info.

That looks really close to my model 30 just a little different not much. Things are bullet proof. I neglect the heck outta mine. More I neglect it better it runs. Going on over 10yrs. Only serviced once.

If I buy this, is it going to be a headache trying to find replacement blades or other parts?

I have one also looks pretty much the same 3 hp. mine is 20 years old. You can find them around here used for about $150 maybe not in as nice shape as that one. Mine still runs great the most I have done to it in 20 years is replace the fuel diaphragm once, and replace spark plugs.

blades are super easy to find, Mora makes em, the non-chinese ones stay sharp forever! Run about 25 bucks a pop.

ymustuknow  I have one just like it. 3hptecum. Bought it off a guy at least 10 years ago. He had if for I don't know how long. He was an older guy. It weights close to 40 lbs. Like everyone else say's it runs great. Still. I'm thinking the thing is from the late 70's maybe. I wouldn't pay no more than $200 if you really want it. Good luck

No. Chipper blade for it is easy to find. I have 2 blades. One for on it one for spare. If u look around though the cost can vary greatly on blades. I've seen them has cheap has $30 and has high has $80. Once sharp they last a long time unless you dig post holes with it in the dirt.

Buy it man, they're bullet proof. I've seen those go for 250+ around here. People will argue with me on this, but I believe that model was the best made.

make sure you put a reserve on it as to protect your bid [bid a higher amount]
some people will ''snipe'' you at the last minute [or 30 seconds] and ya loose the item

Another yes vote! Had one for over 20 years. Only thing I did was change the plug on it every couple of years.  ;D

Can someone post some links of where to find Mora blades for this auger.  I have been looking and only seem to find Mora blades for Strike Master augers.  Also if possible, links for the carb kit as well.

Thanks!

Look at as getting a good auger for half price of new! Mine is 28 years old and just carb work and plug change. They are tough and will last a lifetime if you are good to them.

Did you get it?  I have had mine 10 years and am thinking of going propane. Anyone else have anything on propane?

Thanks.

P.S. We have plenty of ice in N.E. South Dakota now.

Looks like a model 30 to me, and in real nice shape too. I have one from the early 70's, it has the single handle on it. They didn't change much in all those years. I use a Strikemaster Lazar now, but will never sell that old jiffy 30. Every other year I put fresh gas in it and it always starts right up with a few pulls. Most important thing to do is drain the gas and run it dry at the end of the season and it will last for countless years. Hope you get it...

That is definitely the 3 horse model 30. Get a chipper blade and make sure the point is sharp as well and it's a monster!
