Baffin Titan boot wearers...and others
« on: Dec 07, 2013, 05:09 PM »
Is it better to have boot "just" fit, or a little wiggle room.  My 12 fit, but tough to wiggle toes.  13 are a little big, but seem to give me that wiggle room.  ( I hate the word wiggle). It is a tough decision on which ones to keep...I've heard somewhere that they should be a little big for an air pocket?

I always get mine at least one size bigger sometimes two. I learned that from a Rainy Lake guide who considers -20 balmy.

Buy bigger. The "Wiggle" room allows for circulation and the "Air pocket", so to speak.

I love my Titans. warmest boots I have worn ice fishing. I don't even bother wear them if its over 30 degrees because of how hot they are. I agree with everyone else. go for wiggle room.

Tight no   ....     but limit wiggle room to medium

When its slushy or water on top of ice,  I am wearing my titans from sun up to sun down.  I arrive to fish the entire day. These are very warm boots so dont wear a heavy sock unless you like your feet to sweat.
Thick socks   =     sweat      =      less hours feet stay a comfortable temperature b/c liners are becoming wet .   Never wear cotton of course, and try with thinnest wool socks.  I do.    You may be very surprised.  this is counter intuitive.  Coldest , dirty cold days have me putting on my thinnest wool socks.
Titans are not comfortable to walk miles in.   When its dry and cold, switch to another baffin product to walk comfortably
The titans have the waffle insert so there is always a layer of air for insulating.

whatever boot you wear they shouldn't be tight or even snug. i get mine just a little bigger in case i need to put on a heavy sock and even with the heavy sock you should still have a bit of room.

As stated before...I always go one size bigger...why would you want your foot to "just fit"?? If you go one size bigger, the boots are not going to slip off. Wouldn't you want to be able to add additional layers of socks if you need to?? You are not going to notice any difference in weight if you go one size bigger. I hope this helps.

  • Ditch the bobbers and get a 'tight line'

I have a pair of baffins and went with one size bigger as well.  The memory foam does give way some so after several trips they felt a little loose so I added a layer of reflectix between the liner and their reflectix pad.  Now they fit perfect. An extra layer of insulation between the ice and foot can't hurt I figured and that reflectix material weighs nothing.

Wiggle room..I usually go one size bigger, but every boot/company fits different. I always take the socks I'm going to be wearing when I'm out along, put them on, THEN try the boots on.

As usual, thanks for the help guys.  I've tried each boot on about a hundred times...it takes forever for me to make a decision...but with your imput, the 12 are on their way back.  I know I'll be happy with the 13.
