was out last weekend doing some ice recon and the ice conditions were good about 5-7" black ice. went out today and checked a couple more places i like to go at first ice and all was good about 8-10" so i will be heading out in the darkness tomorrow early am with confidence on ice thickness and get set up and see what happens. got a new flasher this year so it should be fun.

Tried Bradwell on saturday and had good perch action for about an hour with a solid 9" of ice. pretty decent size perch aswell. Also tried blackstrap sunday afternoon fishing in 23ft and landed 2 tiny pike, 3 walleye and a tiny perch. Pulled one decent walleye though, he was the highlight of the weekend.

12" of ice at every hole today, east of Shields. Couldn't get out at the north end, slush and water along the rocks.

Just wondering if anyone can give directions to Evans road? I've only ever fished the north end, not looking to exploit anyone's spots. Just need a new place to fish. Thanks.

Just curious, is Evans Road and the sunken road the same, or is it in a different area all together?

I believe they are one in the same. Evans road was the name known by locals and the "sunken road" was the general term used by everyone else not familiar with the area . With all the recent development and signs being re-established Evans Road is becoming the more common term

Yes, It is same.
Sunken road, many year back we called it.
Now they marked the road as Evans road.
Here it is Evans Road. My friend "Bigwilly" called it "Blackstrap Spot #1"

Does anybody ever fish the south end of the lake anywhere past Evan's road? I never hear anything about it or see anyone down there. There is a campground on the southeast side called "Kevin Misfeldt Campground", Does anyone know if they clear that in winter or if you can get down there? I have fished across from Evan's road last winter a bit and once this year and have had decent luck with the walleye at times so I was just wondering what it might be like even further south.

No there is a locked gate down to the campground, I've fished down at the south end. Had some good luck with the whitefish and had a pike rip out the crimped end of a 30 lb leader. That was in 2011 , went back to the same spot in 2012 and not a thing. It also depends on the snowfall if you can get to the south end cause you have to go on at Evans or the boat ramps and not to many guys go down there so your breaking trail and usually your all by yourself if you get stuck.

yeah i used fish down in that area years ago when they had the gates open to access the campground and had good success. but then they locked the gates so no one can get down there.you can allways access it by truck or sled when the ice is thick enough.i dove there on the ice a couple of years ago and caught some nice walleyes and a few pike.last year was to much snow to really get around anywhere.if its driveable this year i will go back there and try it again.

The campground is closed off for the winter. Locked gate and the whole bit. I see guys fishing south of Evans road on occasion, but haven't heard of anyone catching much. Not saying they aren't catching....I just haven't heard.

I was at the north end today there is 9 to 13 inches of ice. We only managed 1 decent pike and didn't see anything except a couple Whitefish on the camera. Where are the fish this time of year?

I went to Evans Road with my kid for 1 hour after school hours. There were plenty of fishes. Ice is around a foot. I only caught 3 perches 8-9" and two similar sized pikes.
I heard from my neighbors that a spot near the camp ground was good for the past few years. They used to catch a lot of perches, but nothing else.

Thanks for the info on the south end of the lake. I drive a car so I wouldn't drive down on the ice anyways. It looks like there is a road past the camp too that heads down to the lake and then follows it around and connects with highway 11 by the dam there. Even if its not open I wouldn't mind hiking down it with my sleigh, maybe wait for a bit warmer weather though, otherwise its a 3 km hike on the ice from the boat launch where I managed to catch 7 walleye (small guys) the other night in that area though, and I think there are some interesting looking spots based on the bathymetric map down that way. Kind of seems like there is a deep hole out in the middle right before it begins to shallow to the south and towards the dam. based on the luck I've had there last year it seems the walleye are in the deepest water and I caught a 27 inch walleye in a similar structure north of the causeway last year. Does anyone know if there is much water flowing through there in the winter??

Here is a link to the government website with bathymetric maps for the province...
http://gisweb1.serm.gov.sk.ca/imf/imf.jsp?site=bathy
I also downloaded an app called 'navionics', it has quite a few Saskatchewan lakes. You have to pay for it but then you can turn on your GPS on your phone and open the app when your out on the lake and it will show you exactly where you are in relation to the depth contours which is quite handy.
