MyFishFinder.com Just like iceshanty but warmer
They were open last winter. I think a lot of the state and county areas stay open through the winter, bring your own TP.
As for camping near the lake, most of us old timers gave that up years ago. There are numerous motels in Malta that are really inexpensive and reservations are seldom needed. The drive to the lake takes 30 minutes which is nothing compared to the drive from Missoula to Nelson. Besides IMO, hauling a camper on the high-line in the winter is a pain in the #@*.
To get back on track regarding Nelson, staying in a wall tent near the lake seems glamorous but if the wind starts howling, next stop Minnesota. I've witnessed sustained 40 MPH winds with gusts of 60 many times. Couldn't even stand on the ice. Pulled gear and waited it out in Malta. Can't imagine what would happen to any style tent. Just an honest FYI.
Did haul my loaded construction trailer from Missoula to Homer, AK nine years ago. I was alone and it was hell on wheels. Talked to myself a lot and one thing I kept saying was that I'd never do this again.
