How do you deal with the Ice fishing Itch?
« on: Oct 10, 2013, 09:24 PM »
So this is going to be my third year ice fishing and I can't wait for the ice to form.  If I start thinking about it before I go to bed I can not sleep because I cannot stop thinking about what I am going to do this year.  So how do you deal with the Ice Fishing Itch?

Um. I thought it was about the ice itch. I was gonna recommend a good powder!! Deal with it by taking up hunting. Takes the mind off it a little. Not much.  But a little.
Jig on.
Jig on!

Yep hunting definitely helps.   Ice fishing houses have been selling since August so the itch has turned into a rash for me lol

I sit on some blog and talk to people about ice fishing... all the while composing a list of all of things I need to buy. The list is getting quite large!

My boat stays out tell the bitter end, then i'll try the river for a bit , then i'll hit petland, petsmart or the fish tanks in wal-mart ( i throw them all back).  Then hopefully ice is thick enough on the lake.

Hunting... That's pretty much the only thing that's keeping me sane right now. I am Turing my camper into the ice shack this winter but am holding off on doing that until after I'm done hunting or all I will want to do is get on the ice. Ice auger, portable shack, all my gear, snowmobiles and quad have been ready since mid summer to go. With the temps are starting to drop so hopefully we will have another early season.

Hunting is on my list for next year. I never got around to tuneing my bow.  My girlfriend took up a bunch of time. Time gladly given I might add.

You need to get her a now and have her come out with ya. So much easier when they want to come hunting and you don't need to find time to sneak out alone lol

bought a used sled last year so I've been tinkering with it and picked up hunting so I'll be headed north with some friends for a moose hunt then I'll go bag a whitetail later on hopefully before first ice.

I start to tinker. After searching around for ideas I made a couple of rod cases for my ice rods. The larger one is a plano take down rifle case and the smaller one is made from an arrow case.
Both cases allow the reels to be placed without folding in the handles. To do this select a case that is 5 to 6 inches deep. and with the foam the rods will be held safe and secure.

Old fishermen never die, they just smell that way.

Watch lots of NFL and NCAA football (GO AGGIES).  Fiddle around with the auger and gear.  Looking at buying a new sled this year so been doing homework on that.  Sled show here in Saskatoon the first week of Nov so cant wait for that.
