Houghton/Hancock Area
« on: Sep 26, 2013, 05:52 PM »
Ill be up in Hancock this winter for school and hoping to be able to get on the ice on occasions. I know about Lake Gogebic, but I there any other closer places where I can possibly go for a few hours after I'm out of class? I'll fish anything so the species does not matter. Any help would be appreciated!

Maybe Portage Lake...I hear that it's a shorter drive than Lake Gogebic.

just stay away from the lift bridge and the Ranger III unsafe ice on the canal in those locations due to springs and blubbers

Yes Portage Lake is definetly closer, just thought the fishing went downhill but I was able to read some old posts and see that that's not true. I'm at FU for the year

If you don't mind me asking, which are the best for walleye and perch. I really don't care what i'm catching but I do prefer these the best!

Thank you! Haven't caught splake through the ice in about 10 years as I just got back into ice fishing last year. They can be a blast though!
