Lakers @ Clear Lake RMNP?
« on: Mar 25, 2013, 02:15 PM »
I am thinking about going to Clear Lake this weekend to see if I can try and catch a Lake Trout.  I have heard that they are in the lake, but have never caught one or seen one caught.  So, I come here looking for some advice on where to start looking for them on the lake, and what sort of hooks/lures people are using to catch them.

Also, I do know the lake produces some nice jacks....where would be a good place to try this late in the season?   what are people hooking them with?

Thanks all in advance......

Don't know on the Lakers in that lake but pike this time of year are straightforward.  Target back bays around creek mouths or back water marshes, they will be coming into these areas to spawn and are feeding agressively this time of year.  Big bait = big fish, use dead bait (8" - 12") on a tip-up hung from a quick strike rig 1 - 3 foot off bottom depending on the depth of water.  Don't be afraid to go under 10 foot of water.  Big airplane jigs, rattle baits work on a jigging pole if you don't use tip-ups.

Laker baits include Williams spoons, tube jigs, bucktail banana jigs.  Primarily white & silver.

Yeah forgot, National Park and all.  If you're going for pike stick with large rattle baits and/or jig and plastics.

Plastic swim baits like those storm ones with a paddle tail have worked vertically for me if you bounce em abit the tail actually moves quite nice.
