pike catch and release

Why does everyone kill the pike they catch and just let them  lay on the ice?  What a waist. I think if your just going to waist the fish why not set it back?

people have a theory that they are eliminating the pike out of a lake by doing that.  Its equivalent to taking a bucket of water out of moosehead lake and say you are draining the lake.

so i assume you release the majority of the pike you catch?

i agree with you. the kill them all attitude is pointless. they are here to stay so might as well make the best of it.

i know alot of the older guys on here hate that the belgrades are not what they used to be... i would too, but killing all

those fish is not going to remove them from any body of water... and killing them is not going to stop their spread. if someone

is going to dump fish into a pond, they will find the fish to do it. honestly, id rather see a lake like messalonskee managed as a

trophy pike fishery than what it is today... which is junk.  Im sure 80% of people on here disagree, but thats my input on the topic.

luckily, more and more people are beginning to feel the same.

I agree with you. Let's face the facts and try to manage some of these waters for what they are. I'm not saying what was done in the past is right but as the saying goes "it is what it is".

Fact is, they taste damn good! Fillet 'em, cut out the Y bone and you've got a great chowder. That being said, no pike I catch is going to go back down the hole!

Why do people get so upset when someone throws a pike to the eagles?  Would people feel better if I brought it home and put it on my garden because then it wouldn't go to waste. If someone wants to keep every single pike they catch so what, it is there right to do so as the law currently is no bag limit. As someone else said to each there own. You guys that want to see lakes like Messo managed for trophy pike have you written or spoken with IFW

Now that I'm here this thread is a LOCK!!!!   I like and agree with the opinion that if  they're already here then lets manage them for trophy fish!!!!  Stop the expansion as best we can but manage the waters that already have good populations.  Where else do you have the opportunity to catch a 20+lb fish on a regular basis!!!

this is Maine just about every bog hole that holds water in the state was a brook trout pond at one point in time before invasives.  Kill them all one less is one less to lay or ferterlize eggs and hope that other fish eat their fry.  If you can fish out a bever flowage in the spring then you can reduce a invasive population by taking as many as you can.  SO DONT THROW THEM BACK LIKE THE LAW BOOK SAYS!!!
