NOT WITHOUT A FIGHT!!
« on: Feb 22, 2013, 01:12 PM »
the Mile's resisting today every fish caught has been earned!
Very light bite & a lot of hit-n-run type attacks on the bait
Arrived 645 a.m. and it was minus 15 degrees and little to no wind it's been
Uncharacteristically calm the whole day, began snowing around 3:50pm

19" 2lb 11oz

18" 2lb 6oz

14 inches 14 ounces way too small to keep but I hook set it in the eye - had to keep the youngster

Seems that way in recent times out -  Today there was about 10 pods of fishermen and by 2PM it was down to 4

Wind came up for the first time as I'm posting this and 2 minutes later - 17 inch two pounds 11 ounces bow

It was heartbreaking to turn it back into the big pond; I was at my limit already (for over 16 inches)

Nice catch Steven. That seems to be a typical day. Are you able to sight fish?

Hey Mark, let's hope it's typical for awhile longer at least.
No, unfortunately I'm unable to sight fish as it's both too deep and too murky of water. Last year, this time the water was clear down to about 7-8' now it's about 4'

I use a Marcum Showdown 5.6 Dual Beam sonar, which helps a lot during these times of lethargy the fish are going thru. I'm able to see the movement and be ready for the bite.

Seems the last 3 times out, they have to be provoked to bite.  A dead stick approach rarely catches fish (for me) over the last few weeks as compared to earlier in the season.

They're really making me earn whatever I get and keep topside.

The dog days of winter are upon us.
We lucked up and got winter again here in SE Nebraska(Omaha area). I usually can drive north 40mi and fish consistently.  Hoping our local lakes froze back up after a few days in the 20s and 8" of snow.
Ice fishing is a subculture, one wouldn't understand until they experienced it...
