I don't get it either, why put it on the stringer only to release it later?

Dudes relax, my neighbor asked me for fish. I kept it alive in case he didn't want it and he didn't - so I let it go.

How long was it on the stringer?  There's a very good chance that fish didn't survive it's captivity.  Everything I've ever read on catch-and-release says the fish should be released immediately.

I don't know New Jersey regulations, but I would assume that once you pushed that stringer through it's lip, it was considered "in your possession" and no longer could be a catch-and-release fish.  If the reg's don't read that way, they should.

5 minutes maybe...so by your logic every bass angler that clips a marker to a jaw shouldn't be able to cull.
And if I weigh in a fish for a contest I can't release them - come on now!

I don't know about bass anglers clipping markers to jaws so I can't comment on that.

First, I (wrongly) assumed it was on the stringer for more than "5 minutes maybe".  My bad, that's what I get for assuming.   ;)

On a second, unrelated point; I thought maybe putting it on your stringer would constitute "possession" as far as the regulations go.  Purely a technical point.

Personally, I wouldn't put a fish on a stringer unless I intended on keeping it.  I just don't think you should be able to change your mind about keeping a fish after putting it on your stringer.  I'm not saying you've guaranteed it's death by doing it.  I just don't think it's "right".

Everyone has their own "Sportsman's Code".  That's part of mine...to each his own.

I can't say for walleye...but when I'm fishing for gills I get a five gallon bucket half full of water, and if I catch a limit or close to a limit (10) I'll bring them home and clean fish.  If I only get three or four, back down the hole they go when i'm packing up to leave.

I dont personally know "webguy" but have seen plenty of fishing videos he uploads and i am sure he knows how to handle and properly release fish, which he has done on all those videos.

Btw, that guy has caught some serious muskies on open water.

Geez you guys, fricking cut the guy some slack. He was nice enough to make some nice videos to share, and you guys are all in his crap because of one fish that may have died. Watch all his other videos to see he catches and releases most of the fish anyway. He had good intentions and made every effort to save the fish. Anyone that fishes knows fish that are caught may die even if they practice catch and release. No reason to read this guy the riot act.

X3. I have seen a number of articles, one in in-fisherman that had WAY different numbers than that. If that was really the case than we shouldn't allow fishing

You killed that walleye should have kept it at least yourself. It is now somewhere frozen to the ice dead. Think smart........

Ashes to ashes dust to dust...that is the beauty of nature.  If it died under the water...it fed a lot of little ones or a muskrat or turtle or pike or eventually a bird.  Nothing is ever wasted in nature.  Get over it.  Would it be any better to gut hook a huge one and want to let it go but couldn't?  Get over yourselves...different strokes for different folks.  Just make sure if your complaining about it...that you don't do the same thing
