welded on ripper blade (how to sharpen)
« on: Jan 28, 2013, 11:04 AM »
I have an old jiffy with welded on ripper blade. I put it in the vise standing straight up and down. I then took a file and gently filed downward toward the floor. This seemed to work seeing it would not cut one hole. Now it cuts but was wondering if anyone has any suggestions such as using a stone on it or something else to get a sharper edge?? Thanks

Did you sharpen the edges of the point also.  Make sure you use a very fine file and keep the angle the same.  Have been doing it for years and it cuts better than the new ones.

i have used a fine sandpaper to help razor sharpen blades, don't see why it wouldn't work on an auger blade, getting the right angle to the dangle is the key though
