Stump Pond 1/25/13
« on: Jan 26, 2013, 09:43 AM »
Yesterday I fishing at Stump pond. My first season of ice fishing since 2011. Caught 3 fish 2 yellow perch and 1 bass. Total 9 flag. I believe that pike did catch my bait but not get hooked cuz I can feel pull down so strong then I let it go and pull it up and nothing.. Darn..

The Ice thick is about 5 to 6 inches maybe 7inches.

Here picture:

I think I was to your left out on Stump. My brother and I only mustered eight flags. A group to our left off the point had some pretty consistent action.

There was all kinds of commotion after one flag, so I broke out my binoculars. One the guys pulled out a very nice pike. Someone from that group had a picture of it when they were getting off the ice. They said it was 12 pounds and it certainly looked like it, nice length and very fat.

As a side note, there's a great little bait store right near Stump called Big O's. I didn't catch the guy's name, but he hooked me up with bait.

He catches all his own bait. I only had $10 on me (they don't take cards just an FYI) and he easily gave me two and a half dozen shiners. They were very lively.

I'm no expert in bait species, some looked like regular shiners, some had red fins and these were GREAT swimmers once I put them on the hook. I highly recommend this store. Always nice to support the little guy.

Wow I just realized my typo. I meant we only had two flags, not eight.

It definitely wasn't us running around to flags then.

We were out on Sunday starting around 7:30 am.  Pulled in two pike, one weighing in at 12.5, and I'm guessing the other was around 13lbs.  Also got a small bass and perch.  Packed up at 11:00.  Was a great day on the ice.

Thanks again to the guys that drilled for us.  The hand auger just wasn't working...

Can you provide and address or image with his locaiton on it?  I could use a good bait source.  Who couldn't?

Definitely keep your eyes peeled. I drove by it myself. There's a little red shed in the front yard and the white sign is nailed to a tree.

Super nice people and you can't beat the prices. I kept about a dozen from Saturday and they're holding up great.

I sure don't want to go against the grain here, but 2 years ago I stopped in there for 2 dozen larges he only had mediums and he charged me almost 30 bucks. I only had 27 dollars  on me so he called it even. Must look rich or something (I'm not trust me)? ???
Guy was nice enough and he even delivers to you if your on Stump. That would be worth the price I paid.
