Where do I find these in the US?
« on: Jan 24, 2013, 10:23 PM »
So where could I find these?
http://cdn.publishme.se/cdn/9-2/441533/images/2012/05866_50d52bdeddf2b32cc7001068.jpg

I've been looking around and the closest I get is Marmish which I don't mind at all in fact im planning on buying a Marmish someday soon. But I do want one of those above in the link to, its hard to find them when you don't know what they are called in English we call them "Mormyskaspö" in Sweden :) I used to have a few of them over in Sweden but they weren't priority when I moved so I gave them away. I guess in worst case I can just tell my a friend over in Sweden to just buy and send one over for me.

Thanks!

Switchbreed look for the Ice Shanty sponsor logos ,find Fish307 click on logo this opens their website. They have two rods that look similar to the one in your picture. The rods are from a company called HT Enterprises a supplier of a lot of Ice fishing equipment here in the United States.

Thanks for the replies. I looked at the HT ones but they aren't what im looking for these are slightly different. I will have a look in walmart and see.

The thing is the ones HT sold are for heavier fish and line while the one I linked is more like a Marmish rod but with a handle :) it is very light.

Your best bet is to buy them while you are in Sweden as this style rod is very hard to find in the States.I've found some on ebay but not common.Pimpel rods are just not used by anglers here.Kind of a shame because they are way more efficient for perch fishing!

It is a shame indeed! They are very fun to catch perch with and easy. Whitefish is another fish that is very fun to catch with them.

It looks like it would be really easy to make your own. You can buy the rod blank, handle, tip top guide, and reel at Jansnettcraft. Cut the rod blank down to what ever length you want.

After some searching, I found one...these were the ones I had...there was a small 2" or so  plastic "trigger" on the handle that you'd depress, making the tip vibrate, hence the name "Thrumming Rod".. tough to duplicate that.

Do you reel the fish in with those or hand line them in?

I have to add that if you get big fish on you might end up using the reel so you don't break the line you could also cut your hands pretty badly if you aren't wearing gloves.

Here is a rod in action:

Thanks for the links. Call me picky  ;D but those aren't what I'm looking for. the ones I need are still much lighter than that and have no built in thumb break.

So if that inexpensive style of rod is used all over Europe and Russia, why the hell do North American anglers spend so much on super duper spinning reels, fantastically ergonomic fly reels and the latest graphite laser guided rods? We're just all suckers I guess. Seriously they fish to feed their families with the same style rod and reel that their grandfather used decades ago.
OK, stepping down off my soapbox now.

Changed my middle name to "You should have been here yesterday".         Remember it's called fishing, not catching.

I saw two rods very similar last week at Canadian Tire in Kingston, if you ever cross the border, stop in and see.  I believe they were made by Normark.

One thing these rods would be awesome for is Smelt fishing.

The American ice fishing idea have caught on in the south of Sweden while in the north most people don't really care for anything other than plastic and wood. For pike fishing I like to use the miniature spin rods but for everything else I use the small ones as described in the first post also called "mormyskaspö" in Sweden.

its 2013! they make little noodle spinning rods now. frabill HT clam all of these companies make little 20in noddle rods and you can fight then with a spinning reel or by hand. Hell there is even a guy in montana who makes a really really light rod it is longer much longer but u can feel anything its called a perch assault.  I dont even see why u would want one. Its like boy i sure miss having a steam engine train  to travel in, these air planes just dont do it for me. also have you thought that maybe they dont make them anymore is cuz they are obsolete?

They still make them, there are championships all over Scandinavia every year that only allow those light type of rods. And yes being a train nut I would love a steam train lol

I do love the noodle rods to thought.
