Its the mid January slump it usually runs from the 19th to end of Jan. That has been my observations over the years.
Here's a possibility....... BAROMETRIC PRESSURE !!We stopped in a bait shop at Schroon Lake some years ago with the intention of buying some bait and fishing the lake. The bait shop owner told us " I'd be glad to sell you bait, but to be perfectlly honest, THE BAROMETER IS FALLING FAST AND YOU'LL BE WASTING YOUR TIME ON THE LAKE TODAY " Apparently, a Low or Falling Barometer turns off the fish bite !! I don't know ...................... ....
Unless you're using tiny baits (cup bait), there's no real need to go that small on hooks. Hmmmm. What pound test and length leaders? Try putting all 5 tipups far apart and completely different locations. Weeds, weedlines, deep water, shallow, mix and match. If you're doing all that and leaders are appropriate, it's probably a matter of keep on doing what you're doing. It'll pick up sometime. Oh and check the silly things, like make sure gas didn't spill on your tipups.
Go up to Schroon lake.
Best cure for skunk slump is go Pickerel fishing... works everytime...LOL, This is exactly what I did! I beat up on some pickeral and then went up to schroon and caught and released a few nice lakers with my son.
