Jigging Walleye
« on: Jan 23, 2013, 08:21 AM »
I'm going to try to jig up walleye this winter and I was wondering if anybody had any luck with that and what the might have used for spoons?

Buckshot spoons with spikes, PK spoons work great for jigging Eyes.  I've caught many on a bibit as well.

Just remember cadence is key! Most people feel its more important than what's on the end of your line.

Depends on what size walleye you're after.  The buckshots I use most are about an inch and a half long.   They catch Perch up to big walleye.  Also jigging raps are an all time favorite for me.

I have yet to jig a walleye on a darter! I've hauled perch on them at times but no walleye.

A 3/8 to 1/2 oz. bucktail jig tipped with a minnow works well.
One more with the one we're after and we'll have two.

Ice_hook, yes it is.Actually you can catch some nice walleyes up there. They are growing fast because of all the dink perch they are feeding on.Trolling i have heard and seen some pics of 10 + lb eyes. They have been getting them for a  few years now.My personal best is 5 or 6 lbs.But i also only fish there a few times a year.It seems like i get a walleye at least everytime i go.

one question i forgot to ask is are you guys using a slip bobber when jigging for eyes.. i am using a 30" med action rod with a black max so when i am jigging i was wondering if i should use one if they bite light.. every thing i read is they hit it while sitting most of the time not while you are actually jigging
