Hi Folks, Wondering what you do to hold your snow skirt down if there is no snow?

Thanks!

Drill a bunch of hole part way into the ice and use the ice chips. It works for me. Just dont use the slush it will freeze the skirt down. I bring a small plastic shovel too.

One year we had ice and no snow so I brought some small bricks and placed them on the skirt. 2 bricks to a side works well.

Not a wise idea drilling holes that don't have any chance of freezing back up. The half drilled holes tend to break ankles if they can't be seen either by snow cover or light to see them.

If the shavings is what your after then once you have enough the hole should be finished so that it will refreeze.

Anybody got any tricks to either prevent my hub skirt from freezing to the ice, or ways to free it without ripping the skirt??

I use a plastic coated chain and lay around the skirt. Works great and is heavy enough to keep the wind out.

Panfisherman has the best idea - weigh it down with fish - I like that!

What should I do with the rest of the fish?

Old bike innertube (or a new one) cut in half, filled with a bit of sand, and then hog-ringed off.  Seen guys use old bolts or small lengths of chain too, but the sand's cheap and available so long as the kids aren't looking.
