Pike set up
« on: Jan 20, 2013, 08:42 PM »
Hey guys..im sure there are numerous posts and topics about this.. Im semi new to pike fishing but ive caught a bunch.

I currently use 50lb floro snelled to a 3/0 gammy octopus hook....any suggestions or am i good?

I check my leader every fish, and have a bunch premade and i switch out often. Just looking for suggestions for a little tweaking or  just a plain old approval.

Are you talking Tip Ups? If so what kind of trap you using? I only use fluoro on the end of my regular braided line. I use about a 6 foot piece and no leader tied directly to a quick strike rig.

GTG.  Play them out w/o putting tension on the leader, and you should get few if any bite offs.

i am using tip ups...jack trap style..i have aboout 500ft on every spool... we cant use trebles or quick strike rigs here in NH..

we can only use a single pointed hook when fishing with bait...i have a barrel swivel connecting my tip up braid and 5-8 feet of floro with my hook snelled on the end of it.

What size bait you using?  Smaller hook like a 1/0 might getchya some more species to bite.

im using good sized bait...4-7inches.  im not sure if the hooks are a #3 gammy or a 3/0 now that i think about it LOL. I was thinking about going down a hook size or two..but i really just to target pike..i have my flasher and jigging rod to jig perch/crappies etc.

Run'em and see how they do.  Think you should get more bites after a few trips out, down size a few of your sets to a 1/0 and see what happens.
