Ride the Green Bay Ice Express
« on: Jan 07, 2013, 01:33 PM »
It seems this happens annually. Ice shelf breaks and fishermen go for a ride. It's great that they can be rescued with no loss of life, but I wonder if they have to pay the rescue tab?

Tax payers are paying for todays rescue. Some area's do charge the people that they have to rescue and some do not. The charging thing seems to be catching on and becoming more common. The area they were in apparently don't charge but if they would have been a couple miles north or south they would have had to pay.

I was talking to my father in law last night. Seems that one of his relatives was one of the people rescued... Supposedly got a $500 fine/bill. I can't prove it, but he is usually right about most things!

Seems that last year they interviewed one of the departments that rescue up there and your first rescue is free and $500.00 for subsequent rescues.  ???

It happens all the time around Duluth MN on lake Superior The coast Gaurd now charges $100 a head, and they have to leave all fishing equipment gear and tackle behind. They have to have someone with a boat go back out and get there stuff.

Happens here a lot to. Depends on the area if they charge or not. But the places that i do know of that charge are $500 each. I also thought all gear stayed behind, but in one of the pictures a guy was carrying his ice auger away from the air boat. Maybe it depends on room or if the use the helicopter.
I seen a post on Lake Link that said one of the guys paid $900 to get his 4 wheeler back.
