January 19-20, 2013
Wyoming Game and Fish Department considers this derby to be a Harvest Contest.
Their definition is as follows:
"Harvest Contests: A type of contest where fish are caught and the decision to keep the fish is made immediately; fish that are kept are reduced to the angler’s possession and applied to the angler’s possession limit. Fish reduced to the angler’s possession must not be returned to the water. No angler may enter fish exceeding the daily creel and possession limit. Contests that provide hourly big fish prizes may be required to keep additional records.
Ice Fishing Contests: These will be authorized only as harvest contests, with no live release permitted. "

Saratoga Lake Ice Fishing Derby Rules

1.      To be eligible for prizes, contestants must hold a current Wyoming Fishing License and must be registered and have paid an entry fee to the chamber.  Contestants under the age of 14 (Small Fry) must be registered and have paid an entry fee.  Unregistered fishermen in your party may jeopardize the validity of fish caught by a registered fisherman.
2.      Registration wristband cannot be transferred and MUST BE VISIBLE at all times on the Derby participants.
3.      Wyoming Game and Fish regulations apply to all registrants, and all registrants must have a current fishing license.  Violation will result in derby disqualification and WGFD citation. All fishermen must understand and comply with WGFD Aquatic Invasive Species Regulations and Procedures.
4.     Game fish must be over 14 inches in length to qualify for this tournament.  No live release is permitted.  No culling is permitted.  All fish must be kept and applied to the daily possession limit.  Ice holes must not exceed 10” in diameter.
5.       When a fish is caught, it must be weighed and measured within 20 minutes. The registered fisherman may bring the fish to the Derby Headquarters on shore or he may signal an on-site Derby Official for a ride to the headquarters.  Last weigh in for Saturday is 5:20 pm and 2:20 pm for Sunday.
6.      Gutting or any other alteration of the fish will result in disqualification.  Only Game fish will be eligible for prizes.  NO FROZEN FISH WILL BE ACCEPTED!  Fish with white eyes or other signs of being frozen may be sliced open by Tournament Director to check for internal signs of freezing.
7.      To determine winners of big fish prizes, fish will be measured by adding length to girth for total score.  Disputes will be settled by Tournament Director, whose decisions will be final.
8.      No vehicles are allowed on the ice during the Derby including snowmobiles and all terrain vehicles.  Only the Derby Officials are allowed to use motorized vehicles.  Violation of this rule will cause all registrations in your party to be void and will result in loss of eligibility for Derby prizes.
9.      Please keep the area clean.  Garbage cans and restrooms have been provided.  Do not dump trash through your ice holes.  Trash should be deposited in the dumpsters placed at the lake for this purpose.  Failure to comply with this rule will result in loss of eligibility for Derby prizes.
10.   Changing the location of the portable toilets is prohibited.  Violation of this rule will cause all registrations in your party to be void and will result in loss of eligibility for Derby prizes.
11.   Dogs must be kept on leashes and under control at all times.  Failure to comply with this rule will result in loss of eligibility for Derby prizes.
12.   The Derby Committee claims no responsibility for the condition of municipal and/or private roads.  The importance of plowing snow on campground and lake roads is a decision made by the Town of Saratoga.
13.   The Derby Committee claims no responsibility  for accidents or injuries on either thin ice areas, Saratoga Lake areas, or the surrounding area as a whole.  You are on the premises at your own risk.
14.   All registered fishermen must sign an affidavit of Derby rules and  compliance.
