Bait Puck
« on: Jan 07, 2013, 11:16 AM »
In my opinion, the best, must have, just works, ice fishing accessory out there.

They are industrucable.  The lid works just like it should. 1/4 turn on and off.  They float so they don't end up down the hole like at least 2 of every other thing I have does.

I buy a few every season and give them to friends that I take out on the ice that are just getting started.

If you don't already have one, do yourself a favor and pick up a couple.  It will be the best money you've ever spent.

I love these things.  Thank you Strike Master.

Also love the great big ice troller ones. work great for keeping at home. i dump my big blue tubs in them as soon as i get them.

I was on a bus and just happened to be sitting on a news paper. This guy came up and asked. "Are you reading that ?"
I said  yes, stood up, turned the page and sat back down.

AND unlike the other "must have" ice fishing accessory out there, you don't have to replace the battery every few years and there is no argument over which of the 3 compeating companies or 20 different models is the best.

WHAT!?!?  Say it's not so!  I had no idea!  Will we now have to debate who make the better Puck and if waxies prefer to be kept in a red, yellow, or BLUE puck?!?!

Are the the Clams red or is that a "Genuine" Strikemaster Bait Puck I spy on thier site?...

I have several, and love them. before I go out walleye fishing I fill two of them with minnow heads. the minnow heads like to be in the yellow bait puck.

I think storing them in the fridge might be the issue to begin with.  They say Waxies do best at 50 - 60F.  I keep mine out in the attached but unheated garage.  Also works well to keep them on the unfinished basement floor.

BUT it does keep them from freezing when you're out on the ice...

love my pucks.....I even use the small yellow one for keeping strips of squid in when ice fishing....a couple of ice cubes and some squid strips keeps me more mobile in the surf....less having to schlep back to the truck when the crabs are stealing my bait.....all hail the almighty bait pucks....

You know, I've noticed another interesting thing, I seem to gravitate towards the red puck for waxies and the yellow puck for "other".

How is this different than the empty Skoal can that I have been using for the last ten years (yes, the same can).  I just punched some holes in the lid for air.  Other than size, I cannot see how this is better than what I currently have.  I can easily fit the Skoal can in the zippered chest pocket on my parka, so the bait stays relatively warm.  Am I missing something?

Now they have the Bait Puck PLUS. It is a little larger, but gives you more room for bait and opens on either end.
The middle is a barrier with holes, big enough for sawdust shaving or loose dirt to pass through, but not as much bait.
I bought one to test in out with a cantainer of waxies and they did very well!

Yep, you're missing somthing.  Insulated.  Crush proof.  Screw on lid that goes on easy and quick but never comes off accidently.  Just enough weight to it so that you can pitch it to your buddy who needs bait or slide it across the ice.  The list goes on and on...  Soooooo worth the $3.00 or so that they cost.   ;D

I have to admit, the Bait Puck Plus was a flop for me.  It doens't fit well in the pocket and doesn't seperate the waxies from the saw dust all that well.  As much as I love the original Bait Puck, this one was a disapointment for me.

I keep my spikes in the same tin that I am using for chew that way you kill two birds with one stone ... Open the tin once grab a pinch for the gum and cheek and then grab a spike for the jig ... best of all you don't have to worry about passing it to your buddies because no one wants it.

love the bait pucks, i bought waxies and spikes in bulk this year, I fill what I need for day, it is nice.  I keep my waxies in a bucket in the shop that has just enough heat to keep things from freezing, and they have been doing well.
