Ask yourself this, Can I afford the fine, recovery cost( I use to get $1200 just to float it to the surface) and can I be without the truck. Just walk or get an ATV or sled.

I would wait for at least a foot of ice. Be careful of springs and pressure ridges. It's much safer with a ATV. Just my two cents.

Ice is a funny thing hard to tell what is going on. I drove out on Caanan street lake one year, drove out to the middle of the lake. my brother got out to cut holes , and when he did the chisel went right through paper thin ice. we where lucky to get off without falling through. so you better make sure before you venture out.  ther are charts out telling the properties of ice but becareful and good luck.

In MN everyone drives their trucks on the ice.  Out here in NH I've done it once, it was on 12" + inches of ice.  Unless you have lot of ice to cover and there is a solid 12"+ on the entire lake I wouldn't risk it.  As others have said if it goes through it's done.  Get a four wheeler to drag your gear around.

11" is plenty.. If you decide to drive on, check the ice often. Don't assume it's safe by someone elses tracks..
Trust me, there's plenty of ice..

I know Swampdonkey will love knowing this, but my Ram is an awesome truck! It won't be out on the lake though no matter what.

I've seen vehicles on as little as 10". I prefer at least 15" of good ice and even then I follow other tracks and check constantly.

That chart is a little on the light side for my preference.

This one is a little more realistic IMO
