I'll be out tomorrow night! Went out today with my girlfreind and set some minnow traps through the ice in the pond for bait tomorrow
Cool looking forward to your report on how you make out, what are you targeting? are you fishing Sharbot?
Dill: where the heck do you live? Sounds like paradise on earth to me.
I live in Sharbot lake, my grandfolks live north of mountain grove 15 minutes away from me. I lived with them most my life, they raised me to live off the land...Self sustaining if you will, I started learning how to hunt, trap and fish when I was 4 years old. My grand daddy taught me everything I know, I've lived literally in the bush my whole life! This computer stuff is still pretty new to me
That's awesome man. Sounds incredible.
Welcome to the site, it will be nice to see some reports from this area this early in the season. Good luck. What about the other lakes in the region any of them have ice or is it jus the smaller lakes like cox?
Right now only the smaller lakes are feezin up, parts of sharbot are froze but I reckon walkin on them would get you wet in a hurry. Cox only has about 3" of good black ice on it, but after last night I'd imagine gurgled a bit more up!
Hey....You guys and gals in South Eastern Ontario are jumping the gun way too early....IT IS TOO MILD FOR SAFE ICE....PLEASE BE CAREFUL....FROM AN OLD FART WHO IS AS OLD AS DIRT AND HAS GONE WINTER SWIMMING IN MY YOUNGER INDESTRUCTABLE DAYS..... IT ISN'T FUN.Bob
Heading out this afternoon to check a couple smaller lakes.Sounds like I`m a lot furter north than you guys. We`ve had some pretty cold weather so I would not be suprised if people have not already been on at least one of them.If I do get to fish I`ll let you know
So I made a little tour today, I wanted to get north of 7 but hit some freezing rain around sharbot which got me to turn around. Still, spent a few hours driving and checked out about a dozen lakes. Nothing I would deem safe, all the big lakes up the hwy 38 corridor Bobs, Eagle, Sharbot all have sections and bays that have a couple inches of ice but the main lakes are still wide open. Eagle was probably the best example of this, the one arm of the lake you can see from the hwy looked completely locked up but at the boat launch there wasnt any ice at all. Dog, Loughborough east and west, Upper Rock and Sydenham are all 90% wide open or at the very best have a skim of ice. Sydenham had a shallow bay that had 3 inches of ice, at wilmar rd launch, but that bay is only about 2 ft deep so not worth the time. The most promising lake that I checked out was S Otter in frontenac park, it was completely frozen over but still a little thin for my liking, only about 2 inches. I am sure if I wanted to hike an hour into the park some of the interior lakes would have been fishable but didnt feel like doing that today. Closest I came to icefishing today was spudding a hole off the dock on S Otter and playing around with the sonar trying to get it to pick up a 1/32oz jig. On a positive note we are miles ahead of where we were last year. Here are some pics, first two are S Otter the last one is the from the Wilmer Rd launch on Sydenham...(Image removed from quote.)(Image removed from quote.)(Image removed from quote.)
Hey JZ nice report! If you ever come round sharbot way again we should meet up and go fishin some place if you'd be up for it?
Sure sounds good, did you get your Shodown working?
