Tarantula Jigs- by Bently Fishing
« on: Dec 06, 2012, 09:09 AM »
Has anyone ever used these jigs for ice fishing?  I'm embarrased to say that I have never heard of them, let alone used them.  When my wife asked me if they would be something I'd be interested in for a x-mas gift I laughed...but after looking at their web site, I thought I'd ask you, the experts, your opinions.  Thanks guys....

i have a few from last year, The gills love them, i use one - two wigglers per hook, and had good luck with gills no crappie but a perch or two.

X2 on the gills. I had many doubles with gills on them. i use the smaller ones. after a while the hooks will get a slight bend to them. Maybe cause i was catching to many gills ;) ;). The only problem i had at times was all 3 hooks would get stuck in a gills mouth and became a pain t get out. That could be why my hooks bent a little. hope this helps. Great jigs otherwise. I like their other jigs as well, bently puts out some nice tungsten jigs, just hard to get at time.

thanks for the feed back...but with only 2 replies, I'm assuming that it's not too popular of a jig...or is it ??? ???...

Its newer

And pricier, but IMO worth it. the finish is awesome and no paint in the eyes and sharp hooks. Obviously not a problem with the tarantulas.

I picked up some last year and caught a bunch of gills with them. The three pivoting hooks are kind of a pain to de-hook if the fish inhales it though.

The good thing was that if ther are a bunch of little bait stealers around you have plenty of bait on the other hooks if one gets robbed.

They caught fish but to me it was more trouble then they are worth.

I like them. At times, they can cause problems removing 3 hooks that all move independently but the fish do love them! I would pick up a few!

Use them and love them. Good quality and solid product. Not many people know about them as they were new and hard to get last year.

i always figured they were more of a snagging type lure. bounce em in the mud when they come over to look pull up. could never see why a fish would bite at that thing

Those are some spendy jigs, pretty but spendy! I can't justify $3 a jig!

Wish I could help, but I have no experience with them. But the way I look at new things like that is, if it catches your eye...give it a shot.

I have some but I only used them a couple times. I haven't had much luck but I never really tried too hard with them. They are pretty nice jigs though.
