Who builds their own stuff?
« on: Nov 23, 2012, 03:13 PM »
I have a dozen trap designs on the computer and darned if one didn't show up here  ;D
I should have moved a lot faster on the Jaw Jacker.... although I admit that their metal design is far superior to my wood frame design.
Just wondering if anyone else has ideas that they have built and are using or are thinking of building just for themselves.

If you look in the Equipment section you will find Sled Mods and Inventions.

Here's a thread that shows a Jaw Jacker-type rig made out of PVC. And like lefty2053 said or do other searches...

We make sleds using 2X6's and skis to pull our gear around.  It's not an ATV, but it's a super cheap and efficient way to pull your gear around.  I actually got the plans from a past post.

For me I do tip up rigs (any material and configuration - I like to experiment), anything in wire, hair, rubber, feathers or lead I can usually reproduce or improve on. I've gotten lots of great ideas here (that's what's held me) for sled/shack mods. I've got a few tip-up tricks I can share yet (when I have the time). Oh yeah, I build ice rods out of busted open water rods...........

Since I found this place I've come to believe that ice fishing folks are the most innovative people on the planet.............. There are some folks here that are thinking waaaay outside the box.

That said, it's incredibly difficult to make money on a good idea. As with most fishing stuff, there aren't many new ideas under the sun; just variations on the theme. A really good idea gets maybe a couple of years before some big company figures how to knock it off (even with a patent) and you're toast.

Best of luck to all of you with all your innovative ideas.......... Viva IceShanty.com!

To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

I try and make my own equipment to save money.... rod holders, tip-up, and recently made my own "wing" style handles for my one arm bandit (I'll be posting that in a week or so).

(Image removed from quote.)

This is an excellent picture and obviously an effective design. If all my tools were not at work I would be building this one today  ;D
