Thanksgiving Weekend... Ice Anywhere????
« on: Nov 19, 2012, 04:13 PM »
Hello all, I have been scouring this forum for confirmed ice anywhere and I am assuming that with the higher temps as of late we are SOL for the long holiday weekend.  Does anyone have confirmed "safe" ice in the state?

Maybe its finally coming:

Just wanted to give you a heads up about a potentially significant change to winter weather by later this weekend.  Current indications are that arctic air will slide into our area on Sunday.  This very cold air will likely be accompanied by accumulating snow.  This may seem hard to believe given the mild weather of late, but computer forecasts have been pretty consistent on bringing this pattern change of very cold and possibly quite snowy weather, Sunday into the early part of next week.  High temperatures could be held into the single digits the first part of next week.  There is still a good deal of uncertainty on timing and extent of the cold air, along with snow accumulations, so please monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this developing situation.

Come on hard water...

Nothing yet except in my freezer. There is still some time to fill big game tags.

I have hung up the rifle for the year and chomping at the bit for ice....  Ready to go...  I guess watching water does not make it freeze...

G-town has been capped for a few days, if the forecasted rain misses or is minimal and the snow doesn't add up too much, I would think it'd be good to go by the weekend.

I'll probably find out Saturday if I haven't heard anything else, if nothing else there's a couple others down in that area I'll check out.

Quite a few areas on the lake have had ice for well over a week.

Not in Montana but there is good ice in North Dakota.  I got my first fish of the year today, a nice big channel cat.  Home to Butte tomorrow and I'll look at Delmoe Lake to see if it had safe ice.

Dave Genz said he was on 3"-6" out there some place near the Canadian border on his ice report, couldn't make out the lake.

He was in ND, no way those lakes have ice yet, I've been watching the weather closely up there.

With the lack of Ice I think I'll be hitting Koocanusa with the boat and Planer Boards and see if I can drag up a Kamloops....

Good Fishing!

I have some seen some reports from UT, Rapid City SD and Belcourt ND of people getting out.
I will be making a 860 mile run tomorrow after work to fish for the weekend. Taking one of the kids to get a haul pass from the boss. ;D

Jealous, Neptune!

Lone Pine and the upper reservoir each had 100' of ice on their dams and all of the little ponds are too solid for waterfowl. Don't try to walk on them without waders though :(

Won't take but a few days with good weather!

I am about ready to get the boat back out, I wonder if I could find anything up at Tiber this weekend.. hmm.. I'm still kind of holding onto the dream I can fish G-town or an alpine lake this weekend.   G-town looks pretty soggy after getting rained on today, not so sure, wish I could get out before Saturday, I'd just go to ND and make use of my license out there.

I am going to do a tour of Tiber, Arod, Bynum etc... on friday.  I will post results.  I don't think my new Marcum LX-6 will be used this weekend.

Yeah, I was really looking forward to a weekend on Georgetown.  Hopefully we'll get some bitterly cold, windless nights here soon.

Very cold weather is coming by Sunday. Ice could be ready soon after. Then it warms up again. Crossing my fingers the ice builds and holds at Gtown.  :-\
