Well I went up to camp a few days before deer season, had about 2 inches of ice on our very small pond in the swamp. Ran home to get my spud bar, a pole and some tackle and bait. Managed to catch a few perch and blue gills! The ice was crystal clear and thankfully the pond was shallow enough to allow a quick freeze! I'd like to think I was the first person to go ice fishing this year (2012/2013) here in the U.P. but I'm sure there are a few others out there that beat me to it.
