i am going to fish Anglers bay as soon as possible, ive always had really good luck early ice slaying bluegill and perch, i was wondering what my fellow anglers are going to go in Iowa for the first Ice of the year?

I'm crossing my fingers somewhere around the IGL's Dec 1st, but if that falls through somewhere in central Minnesota that weekend.

Probably a few small local ponds if the weather cooperates. If not Upper Red or Lake Of The Woods.

Probably Hooper will be the first I fish but the first holes drilled will probably be on fort des Moines pond to check the ice.

My first ice will be a small blue gill pond thats only 5 feet deep same as last year . Last year I was fishing on 2.5" on dec 12 then it thawed and was sad and it was 35 days before on ice again hoping this year is much better

Probably a small local Reservoir for some perch and northerns and a few smaller local lakes for Pike and Crappies. Should be on a few days after thanksgiving on the reservoir

Hopefully Union Grove or a local farm pond. But if that's not doable by the end of first shotgun season I'll drive a ways north if I have to. I'd like to get in on the early bite at Bussey, last time I went there I missed it by about 2 days apparently.

3 years ago it was a pond near Spencer, IA on December 15
2 years ago it was Anglers bay on Dec 1
last year is was Anglers Bay Dec 10
This year?

? shooting for Dec 1 but more likely be Dec 8-15 for my first ice this year.

where is bussy lake I would like to meet some of you guys up there. Im buying a new FL 22 soon and ready to put it to the test asap

Let me know if some of guys are going to meet and try that lake on first ice

probably in a boat on the Missouri until the first of the year.......at least. Weather looking bad for ice for a LONG time.

Judging from the long range forcast maybe I should have kept one of my boats out of storage this winter. The first place I will go is where the ice is thick enough for me.

Bussey is a backwater lake off the Mississippi. Just on the north end of Guttenburg.

Fist pond or pit I find ice this year is going to be late last year I was ice fishing this weekend looks like a few more weeks this year forecast doesn't look good at all

I was told Union Grove was 41degrees today!!!

It will be the first body of water that will hold 210 pounds! hoping it will be Williamson pond here in marion county but if memory is correct it will be a small pond around melcher-dallas or Pleasantville. I plan on fishing in Minnesota on black friday. May dad and I always was out some where on black friday while the women went shopping. Now that he is gone, my cousin and i are planning to go somewhere. Last year it was around St.Cloud (should have had our heads examined, lol very scary when ice was melting as we were out there.) but this year it might have to be lake of the woods. I don't doubt it. And the 10 day forecast doesn't look like it will get much better. I sure hope we don't have a repeat of last year.

first trip for me will be this Friday in Council Bluffs area. I'm ready and have my gear set and good to go. Unfortunately, my "trip" is going to have to be at the Bass Pro Shops in Council Bluffs and stare through the tank! Hey, it's clear (like ice), it's hard, and I can see the fish!...closest I'm going to get to seeing something resembling ice in this area probably til Xmas break! If only they would put the pexiglass covering on the top of the tank, maybe I could drill through and pretend I was sititng on ice!

After last year's lousy season ANY WHERE I find four inches of clear ice first.
