I've used homemade and have gone to a small pond filter.  Runs off 110 vac and has the pump and filter in a single housing.  I extended the outlet pipe so it comes out the surface of the tank.  It sprays the water in a fountain and aerates the water.  Had it in one of them 250 gal tote tanks.  I'm using the tote tank for another project so am back to a 50 gal. plastic drum.

I've never bothered with a filter. We just keep an air pump going and change the water at least once a week.

So let me ask some of you pro bait keepers.  Do some of the smaller shiners actually grow from now to Feb in your tank?

If I remember right goldens grow about 1" per year. So what you trap is what you've got. That's why we throw the small ones back unless we plan on a trip to a pickerel pond just to chase flags.

Thanks. that's what I figured.

You dudes are hardcore with the bait tanks!! Gotta be nice to hit the basement or garage when you need a dozen! Saw the snow fall and had to check the shanty...I'm hoping for solid ice this season too!! Temps in the 20s at night in early Nov is a good sign. Yee haaa! 🎣😝

First thought when I saw the snow was "get those water temps down"

Yup I hear that...back in the 60s next week though...hopefully the night time temps chill the water off! I think we will be fine his season 👍! I'm still hoping to do some open water fishing before it gets to cold!
