Sorry guys I don't buy your estimates on age. A 50 year old char will go 60 plus pounds here. No joke. That fish is bout 15-20 years old.

Nice Fish.... ;)2

I was told by a guide on LOTW that on ave. Lake Trout grow .25 lb/ year. This guide was also a Marine Biologist with the MN Dept. of fish and game. I have been unable to independantly verify this figure, but I have no reason not to believe him. He also told me that in areas further north approching the arctic circle it might take them 4 to 6 years to gain just one pound. I caught a 13# last summer and he told me that it was most likely around 50 years old.

Yeah and your lakers don't get to 90 pounds though do they? The biggest laker I think I've seen here was one by bigredonice at about 12 pounds. Lakers over twenty are common (not to diminish whisky's fish) and I've never seen one caught up here that went less than 6 pounds. They grow fast up here. They do nothing but eat. All day, all year. They'll eat any fish that swims and birds and beavers and well anything they can get in their mouths. I'll try to get some numbers from the local DFO guys. If that fish is over 30 years old I'll eat my keyboard!!!

The biggest I've ever got was about that, 12 pounds, they don't get that big down here, 25 pounds is about the upper limit. Our lake trout eat everything that swims, they just don't get that big, probably because there are a whole bunch more fishermen that catch them. Maybe your fish grow quicker than ours, but I know that my estimate and that of BigRed is not off by very much for our fish. Maybe it isn't 50 years old, but its still a hell of a fish! I hope you've got a tasty keyboard!  :P

The fish that C O C K Y K R I S is talking about is one that was neted in the same lake. TGF told us about it, fish was recorder & released. When terry gets back i'll ask him about it.
C O C K Y K R I S & I are coworker and some times he just doesn't know wen to shut up. I am his manager and his attitude gets a little overwhelming at times. Sorry about that guys  :%$#!: Here's a fish my friend cought this morning from the same area. Yes he realeased it. We got it out & back into the lake in under a minute, no blood. The one I got was not so lucky. The camera was too far away and by the time we took the pics there was lots of blood. We where not sure it was going to make it. IT's so verry tasty.
