I would think you would want as much ice as if you were using a sled/quad, so I would think 5".  Wouldnt want to have it become an ice cutter.

Id run it on 2"! Not sayin it would hold ya, but at least if the ice breaks you know you aint goin through!  We run our race sleds on 3" and dont have any problems.

That is what i am hoping i figure if the shore line holds it i should be good and i and mainly just trying to make sure i have a back up plan for next year in case we have another crappy one but it would be nice to have it first and last ice to Cruz around when no one else can and i think i am going to build something that i can drop the boat into and fix it to it but still be able to take it out and use it on the rivers..

Can you imagine the noise that thing would make goin across the ice. probably scare every fish in the lake away from you. Not to mention if you were to go through you would have one heck of a time trying to get that thing up on some solid ice again.  :o
I caught a fish once!

I've seen a guy using one of those on Muskegon lake ( not this year), But i don't think they work good if there is much snow on the ice.
