Catching Bait under the ice
« on: Feb 17, 2005, 09:00 PM »
Just wondering if anyone has any info on catching the natural bait in a lake under the ice.
I fish a local lake that has a nice laker population but they rarely eat Minnows.
I doubt there are Smelt in this Catskill lake so the natural food is most likely Sculpins or Suckers.
Can I send a bait trap down and possibly catch any to use for bait???
If so, what bait would I use in the trap??
There are no Alewifes/Mooneyes in here that I know of so what other natural bait might the lakers feed on??
If I agreed with you we would both be wrong!
