I use 6-10lb. Fluorocarbon. Mostly Seaguar InvisX. Fluoro is nice because it has less stretch, for better hooksets in deep water. Some people like braid. I don;t because when its cold it freezes up like crazy. If you are in a shack braid might be ok. I always stay mobile therefore I don't fish out of huts.

I fish a heavy rig with 10lb braid 8lb fluoro leader adn a light laker rig with 8lb braid 6lb fluoro.  I dont like using straight flouro bc you get crazy line twist and weaker hooksets than with braid.  Braided line does gather more ice but I find that downside to not be that big of deal when compared to the line twist and weaker hooksets.  On a bad day youll hook an extra 2-4 fish you wouldnt have without braid.  Lakers have very tough mouths.
