Bomoseen Derby & Ice Conditions.....

Hey All,
Just wondering if anyone has a recent ICE update? I was out last Saturday & green dump had 5", Crystal Beach had 8", and the far north & south ends had 12".  However, I caught rumor today that the ice is separating from the shore line??  I plan on making a trip over Friday afternoon to check a couple of spots before the derby... I was also, curious who will be fishing the derby this weekend??

very poor ice. shanty in past green dump...i bet there will be more by the end of the derby.

I don't think the ice is all that bad (if you use your noggin  )  It was a very solid 7" of black ice where I was....

Anyways, I just made a trip to the board: 1st bass was 7lbs, 1st pike was 11.9lbs, 1st trout was 3.98lbs, and 1st perch was 1.15lbs

The board leader remain unchanged as of 5pm

Pike was 15.34 lbs.
Bass was 7.06 lbs
Trout was 3.98 lbs
& I missed what the perch was; but think it's around 1.2

We got third on the pike (we were in first all day Saturday but had a feeling it would take a 16 pounder to win it) and reported one Sunday morning that would have been 5th.

All in all a great time! We iced 7 pike and got bit off Sunday by something that felt like a freight train!

Great Benson next weekend so look out!

Thanks man! We had a blast, set up a nice little patio arrangement with chairs, table, tunes, grill, the works! One of my buddies went to  Alaska last fall and shot a bull moose and a Dall sheep so we had moose steaks, moose burgers, sheep steaks. Then there is the standard hot brats with sauteed onion, pepper and mushroom and cold beer 

Never failed, as soon as we start to cook something the flags pop. Once we figured out that mojo we were eating constantly

do you think the ice you fished on will make with 4 days above freezing compounded w/ 2 days of rain???

We had a solid 9" of ice under us but the "on and off" the ice was "delicate" at the end of the day both days, I was very cautious with the kids getting on and off the ice.

I am HOPING the big ice cube will survive and worst case scenario we'll need to use the ATV truck ramps to get on or off. My buddy lives at the outlet end of the lake and will be checking the shanty closely this week in case it needs pulled off. All we can do is hope for the best

the spot I hit is ok for now...10 " of ice but it has a ton of air pockets in it...got planks in the truck already but thinking we are done after this w/e....I think its easier to tell when to go out at first ice then when to pack up at last ice...Thurs forecast is 50 and rain
