I don't know this as I have not tried it, but was told that the cold water/temps tend to slow the chemical reaction and they don't glow as much.   Can't hurt to give it a try.

Well,  they float so you have to weigh them down first of all

I know this because my 16 year old son was fishing with me and thought of exactly what you're suggesting as well.
Not wanting to stifle creativity, imagination, curiosity (all those things men of all ages like)  I told him to go for it....

He tried it without any success     Doesn't mean it does not help/work PERIOD - just didn't produce a thing that night

Guessing some fish went away seeing stars instead of the bait :woot:

Hmmm, probably not a PC kind of thing to do for any of those 'People Eating Tasty Animals' types....:roflmao:

Tried one before when going for crappie. It didn't produce any more than when I tried without it, but the lake I was on isn't fished at night.

I have used them at night for burbot. We first tried the large 4" long ones inline with a rubber jig and that worked. But not as good as the small ones that you can slide into the grub. Red was the best color, but we only tried red and green. I'm not sure if the bigger light spooked the fish but they do last for quit a while in the water 2-3hrs. Our group (4 people) were fishing in 120' and the catch ratio of with light was definitely better than without a light. We never had a laker strike, but we weren't really in a laker hole. Use a clear grub no flat colors so the light can shine through the lure, and make the incision directly under the hook with another long shanked hook slide that baby in and go to town.

You might want to look for a LUMI LURE. They are no longer made as far as I know.
I bought a couple at a local pawnshop who was selling some New old stock of fishing stuff he got somewhere.
Basically this is a lure with a stamped area the shape of a small glow stick in it.
There is also a new company called GLO CRAZY that is trying real hard in Alaska selling their products. I can't vouch for their working or not as I haven't tried them.

used to get the glow sticks from the dollar store.    lately they haven't been working in the cold weather.  went to a clip on headlight for a ball cap = $3.00 at walmart.  i clip them onto my tip-ups close to dark.    they can be put into an empty small jar and suspended into a hole for a nightlight.

They are illegal here. But my two cents would be that a big glowing lit up area in a sea of darkness would not be beneficial at all. Entirely unnatural and i would think it would spook the fish.  Maybe a small light on a lure (also illegal here) but not a large lit up area.
Still counting.....
