X67C Acting Up
« on: Jan 23, 2012, 02:10 PM »
went out fishin yesterday with my trusty x67c. i've had this unit for 3 or 4 years now and it's been great, but it was acting up yesterday. it kept losing bottom and giving me the wrong depth. i was in about 40 fow, and it was telling me 3.5 ft, then 40 (correct), then it would climb into the 50's 60's and on and on into the 100's. it also kept losing it's sensativity. i couldn't see an 1/8 oz jig at 20ft. for most of the day, but it would come back. depth would be right and i could see my jig. i'm wondering if my transducer is on it's way out. anybody have a similar experience?

Definitely sounds like a transducer issue...Is your battery good?

I've had a few cliches like that with mine. A fully charged battery seemed to take care of most of it. The only thing it still does is after fishing for a while it will lose the jig or will show a less strong trace, so I end up changing sensitivity to get it back, eventhough nothing else had changed?? Maybe the clarity of the water is changing over time ???

On the depth do you have the chart manual box checked?

battery is good, new last season and had full juice. ducer was wiped off several times. inspected the ducer cable, no signs of wear. and i always use manual depth, don't care for auto. manual sensitivity too, always set at 98%. i'm thinkin the ducer is on it's way out...

This is different from manual sensitivity and manual depth settings.  This box needs to be checked.

ok, i'll double check. it's worked great for years, just now started acting up so i don't think it would be a setting.. worth a shot though.

mine has done that in the past, i fixed it by always making sure that the manual depth limits was set lower than the actual depth ie: make sure that its not set at 30 and you are fishing in 40. seems to fixed mine when it would lose bottom and bounce like that.

What I have been finding this happens when anouther unit is in the area.

Transducers go bad if left out side to  in weather below -20
Many people leave them on there boats during winter to find they have tio replace it in the summer.
