Fished Lake Herman over Holidays
« on: Jan 20, 2012, 10:05 AM »
I had been fishing Lake Thompson, up in the Shaefer's slough area, and had been catching quite a few walleyes in 7 FOW.  There was between 7"-9" of ice there.  Had to fish through  a bunch of 12 and 13 inchers to get a limit of keepers, but it was fun.  I decided to try Lake Herman the one day, and dragged my shack out from the beach and set up on the south end of the scour hole there right on the break.  Staring catching fish immediately, but they were hammer handle northern pike.  I moved to the north end of the hole, east of the point, on the little 7 foot finger that extends there, and did the same thing.  I think I counted about 13-14 little northens that day.  Fun, but no perch or walleyes, and I even lost a jigging rap to one of the northerns! :(  This was the week between Christmas and New Year's, can't remember the actual day, but the ice was safe enough then.
