Cascade GPS points
« on: Jan 18, 2012, 01:50 PM »
Anyone ever use GPS points to locate ice fishing spots that have been successful or are the perch, trout, etc. too mobile?

I just did last weekend.  I scanned the Cascade contour map, and did an overlay in Google Earth.  I set some points and used my GPS to locate them in the field.  Then shot points to bring back to GE to see how accurate it was going the other way.  Actually worked out well.  The area is an area I thought would have trout...and sure enough it did, in fact we didn't catch any perch...only trout, and all nice ones.  So I think the process works well.

I use the GPS all the time, a real easy way to do it is by looking at Google Earth and with many of the lake and ponds you can see shallow points and humps. Just move your cursor over a spot and at the bottom of the screen you will see the latitude and longitude. There is also many, many different map/mapping software available out there to help.
