I was there last Friday (Jan. 13) and caught 75 - 100 smelt and had about 6 - 8' of ice. They were hitting good but I couldn't stay long (2 hours).

There's a Best Western right on the corner of Blush Hill road (kinda pricey though). Just up the road (rt 100 north) is the Thatcher Brook Inn which is nice and not as expensive as the Best Western. Downtown Waterbury is the Old Stagecoach Inn which is nice as well. You'll find 90% of the motels in that area are expensive because of there proximity to Stowe. There's a nice (and cheap) motel on the Barre-Montpelier road (rt. 302) called Twin City Motel. That's the most reasonable one around and is about 20 minutes from Waterbury Reservois. there's also a good resturant close to the Twin City called the Wayside (and it's open early in the morning to).
