Pretty new to the sport but all last season we had the best luck on green/yellow jigs.  What I would call a fire-tiger color on any of my warm water crankbaits.

Is it the jig or the jigee??

Bingo!  As you will see from this thread a WIDE variety of jigs will work.  Comes down to being at the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing.   Meet all those, and they will hit just about whatever you drop to them.

Personally, my "go to" jig is a Marmooska in green/chartreuse or white/pink tipped with either a Maki plastic or one I hand pour myself.   I find I don't have to veer from that too awful much.

Caty Jigs Rodent/Lightening Glow w/ Orange dot with silver belly
#10 - #6  tipped with a mousie grub or spike.
I've got 2 poles and I rarely have to tie new jigs. :icefish:

I find the Bro Bloodworm to be as close to a sure thing as possible.  I setup a rod with that and one with the smallest size swedish pimple when a little more bulk is needed to draw attention.  Those two outproduce the other 100 jigs/plastics that sit in my box.

I like a Hali or Kodiak when I'm fishing aggressive fish and need to get it down quick.
My most productive combo this year has been a green Forage minnow with a weighted fly underneath. It's been deadly with perch, crappie, and gills this year.
The angle of the dangle is directly proportionate to the heat of the beat.

Fishing the Lake Ontario Bays I always start with a Silver Swedish Pimple tipped with a Jumbo Niagara.

Med. size Swedish Pimple with a perch eye. Most times color does not seem to matter much. Plain silver or chartruse are my default colors.
