south bay champlain
« on: Jan 12, 2012, 03:36 PM »
just looking for info on exactly where you caught your biggest fish there?

just kidding, heading out tommorrow to south bay for the first time, saw it was locked up earlier this week and was just looking for tips where the ice is dangerous, i usually go out from pike brook to the other side but ive read that its still flowing warm water. Any tips where the safe ice is would be great.

i usually go into the bay on the other side of the bridge, just making sure there isnt any weak spots in the ice i should be worried about.

 thanks for the response

I actually caught a nice (27") walleye in South Bay last weekend!  It's been years since I've caught one.  Last weekend, we had 3.5 inches of ice.

You got to remember back in the spring, SOuth bay was flooded a long time with spring run-off. It might have altered where the fish hang out now.

Great looking fish.  The walleye population is doing a lot better in the last couple of years

Can I ask a general whereabouts for the crappy? It's my favorite eating fish but I have only gotten into them once really on southbay, to the left of the bridge if you are headed north. Thanks in advance.
